How I Can Be Confident About The New Year!

As I sit here reflecting back on 2020 I am remembering a year of unbelievable challenges and unanticipated blessings.
I am sure that most of us have heard the Serenity prayer; "God, grant me serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference. This sums up why I can be confident as I enter 2021.
The challenges of COVID 19 that we could not have anticipated. The upheaval and distrust of each other that we see in our world. For our family that meant that we were not able to physically visit our new grand daughter. Thankfully though, the rest of our children and their family's all live in really close proximity to us so we were never isolated from them.
January 2020 found us muddling through what we had learned the previous year at a Ranching for Profit School. Like anything new the learning curve can sometimes be quite steep. We had many concepts that we worked through in order to make our farm better. I have to say that some went smoothly while we are still trying to get our brains wrapped around other areas. Overall, I do have to say that we have succeeded in our 2020 goals.
We also headed into our second year of attending the Grande Prairie Farmers Market where we are able to connect with folks in our community who care about where their food comes from and want to "support local." We have been overwhelmed and humbled by all of you who have went out of your way to support our farm and other local producers.
We had been planning to introduce an online store in 2020 to make our farm products easier to access for our customers. The lockdown made us implement this new service very quickly. Like anything that grows very quickly, our online store was no exception. We are so thankful for your patience and feedback when glitches occur in the ordering process. We have been able to correct a lot of these and try to quickly act when new issues come up.
It has been a privilege to provide you the opportunity to purchase locally grown and produced grass-fed beef and lamb, pasture/forest raised pork and free-range eggs from animals we have put our hearts and souls into raising.
We have been blessed in 2020 to connect with so many people who are committed to building a resilient local community. We are committed to serving you well by doing our best to raise food that you can confidently feed your family, food that is safe, local and convenient. Foods that help contribute to the health of our bodies, farming practices that regenerate our precious soil and rebuild our local economies.
When the challenges of daily life start to become overwhelming to me I think about the Serenity prayer and ask myself:
- What is my purpose?
- What have I been called to do?
- What challenges did I face in 2020?
- How did I overcome them?
- What was I grateful for in 2020?
- How can I be a blessing to the people around me this year?
I know that I can't affect change in the world at large, but I can live the change I want to see right where I am.
I would love to hear your answers. After all, isn't that what community is all about?
Warm wishes from our Family,
Sue
